Default Tips on Cleaning OEM R4 Rims

It was a long winter and I didn't clean the wheels as often as I would have liked to. The result was a tough yellow stain that I couldn't get out with soap and water.....even scrubbing. So I tried a tooth brush and toothpaste. Worked great except it took a long time! No scratches or swirls either. Does anyone have any other tips???

Those wheels look great, just love perfectly clean wheels. That dark ring inside the wheel is from the ventilated disk. The yellow stuff that accumulates over the winter can be removed very easily with a mild rubbing compound. You would think it could be dissolved with a solvent, but I've tried mineral spirits, isopropyl alcohol, various detergents and cleaners but never found one that would work. The rubbing compound on a soft cloth works great, very easy and quick.

You can use wheel specific brushes and cleaners.

Here is the winter wheels I bought with my car.
Previous owner left them at the dealer for storage.
They were quite filthy.
Needless to say they look like new now.

here are my before and after winter rims cleaning:

Cheers

Luckily I have the Ti wheels which hide the dirt and deposits much better, but generally the P21S wheel cleaner has done me good.

This is a great place to buy car care products btw:

Default Sorry to revive this old thread but...

Titsataki: What size rims you using? If they are 18 do you need a spacer for these winter tires? I am trying to get some winter rims for my RS4 and I would like to run 18s if possible.

Thanks

They are 19's and nope no need to put spacers.
Previus owner had them and he let me have them for a nice price.
Tires only have about 500 miles from the previous owner.

Car is not a daily driver so I conteplated for a while to actually put the winter rims/tires on. Today I will be putting about 15-16 miles as I took the car to work.

Regards

Nick
