Default Track set up

I'm taking the RS4 to the track this weekend. I have the Stasis suspension. What adjustments should I make? And do I need a new alignment?

Default Alignment first... Did you get a new alignment since you installed the MS kit? If yes then...

No other is required if you are just changing the shock settings.

If you have not gotten the car re-aligned after the suspension was installed then I suggest you get it done.

I don't know what other modifications you have done to the car's suspension and I don't know what your driving experience is or how you like your car to be set up (especially on a track), so my advice to you is going to be based on what I know about these cars and the way I like them to behave (I like a loose tail end to pivot the car). You should take care and explore the car's limits slowly.

Disclaimer; the following settings are mine and may not be suitable for everyone and caution should be taken when driving the car at first to find the car's limits and your own limits.

Here we go. I would suggest you start with these settings...

Front shocks set up (bottom adjustment): From the full stiff position, uncrank or decrease the **** by 10 clicks. This will soften the front shocks for more "front end bite".

Front shocks set up (external reservoir adjustment): From the full stiff position, uncrank or decrease the **** by 5 clicks.

Rear shock set up (bottom adjustment):
From the full stiff position, uncrank or decrease the **** by 5 clicks.

Now if the the above settings are "too wild" or too "tail happy" for you, you may want to crank down or decrease the rear stiffness by another 5 clicks. This also hold true if the track is very bumpy (especially in turns)and makes the car's tail end too unstable. This can also apply to a wet track. You can soften the rear or/and stiffen the front.

If the track is bumpy (in the braking areas) and the ABS seems to come "ON" prematurely, you could try to change that by adjusting the setting on the external reservoir on the front shocks. I would uncrank or decrease the present setting by no more then 2 clicks at the time.

Hope that helps you.

Default Re: Alignment first... Did you get a new alignment since you installed the MS kit? If yes then...

Thanks.

The only thing I can get to is the front external reservoir. It's set at 12 clicks from full stiff. I'm not sure how the rear is set up. GMG set it up.

What do you run on your tire pressure?

Default You do have access to both the rear and front shocks' bottom adjustment *****...

But you have to look under the car on the shocks stem or attachment point to the car's lower control arm.

Please take a look at this picture to locate the adjustment *****. The shock in the picture is not the same as on the STaSIS kit (couldn't find a picture of ours) but where the black round **** is located on this shock is exactly at the same location as on our shocks. Additionally our shocks are not terminated in the same way. We do not have a "round" ending (where the bolt goes through) but a "fork" ending because the shock mounts directly over the lower control arm. But at least this picture still shows where the adjustment **** is located.

The adjustment **** is the round black thing just sitting above the round portion at the end of the shock's stem.

If you want to track your car properly you need to know how to use this suspension or else there is no point in buying a wonderful tool like this kit.

Yes you will need to get under the car to adjust them. Start with the settings I gave you and see how the car behaves. You need to know where your car's suspension settings are now or else you will never be able to test different settings without knowing the starting point.

Now as for tire pressures, that's another can of worms...

First let me tell you I track a modified A4 and I have track driven two RS4s (student's cars). One lucky gentleman had the STaSIS/Ohlins kit with H-Sports bars on it. The car also had Bridgestone RE-01Rs in a 275/30/18 size IIRC. So with my limited RS4 track time this is the best advice I can give you...

What tires are you going to use on the track?
The OEM high performance tires? An extreme performance tire (semi R compound) like the Bridgestone RE-01R? Or are you using a R compound tire like a Toyo RA1?

Perhaps for a street and semi R compound tires I would start around the 34 psi mark and let them heat up over several laps to build up the pressure. Once you lapping is done I would expect them not to be above the 44 psi mark.

For R compounds different manufacturers' compound may react differently but on my car (A4), I start at 28psi with the RA1s. By the time I finish a 20 to 30 minute lapping session they are at 38 psi and that's the max pressure I want to see "Hot" with the RA1s because they get greasy after that. I also tried Kumho V710s with similar results.

I'm sure some more experienced track time RS4 owners can give you further inputs on tire pressures for this car.

If GMG did the setup, why not ask them?
