Default Traction Control....

Guys I noticed something wierd today...when I tried taking the traction control off the light for it on the dash was blinking...I've been in other Audi's as well as my previous car and have only noticed a steady light. Is it different for the RS4?

The RS4 comes with a two stage ESP system.

Read your manual to deactivate it properly.

Hold the button in for three seconds and you partially disengage, the light will blink at this stage. Hold it for a full 5 seconds and you completely disengage and the light will stay on solid.

Blinking light means traction control has been disabled and the steady light means both traction control and stability control have been deactivated. I personally don't like a blinking light on my dash, so I almost always de-activate both before I drive anywhere.

Actually all you have to do is press it once. No need to hold it down unless you want to turn both systems off(solid light).

Also keep in mind that in both blinking(traction control off) and solid(traction and ESP off) the EDL remains active up to 50mph.

Do any of you guys drive with traction control off, or do most of you all drive with it on. I find it kicking in every now and then but am too scared to turn it off, simply cause I don't know how it will respond. I'm planning on taking my rs to an empty parking lot somewhere and see if I can a) get it to slide (i hear this is near impossible) b) determine the difference between the traction control settings, and c) learn how to heel-toe downshift. I need a fairly big empty parking lot for all this, but I think I can find a mall or something that's closed. Any advice?

Are you really that scared of this car?

I drive everywhere with the TC off including track days. These cars are so well mannered with the all wheel drive I have never felt like I was not in total control.

One of the down sides of not using TC is extra tire wear. You will burn through tires a little faster.
