Trade BMW 135 for B7 S4?
Hi, I am new to the forum. I am a current owner of a 2008 BMW 135i Coupe which I have very much enjoyed for the last two years. My problem is that I have a newborn and live in Pittsburgh with snow to deal with. As such, I need to find something with 4 doors and AWD.
I am down to an 07S4 6MT or a new 09 G37xS Sedan. I was wondering everyone's thoughts as to which is the better purchase. The S4 will cost me about 35k but has very low miles. The G37 costs a few grand less and is brand new. My head tells me the G is the better buy but my heart says go with the S4. My biggest concern with the S4 is the age of the car and the fact that it has already been replaced with the 2010.

I used to own a BMW 335xi (08).
I now own 07 RS4.
The RS4 is better car in every way besides the ergonomics. Like B7 dated navi, phone etc... People hate the i-drive but I think it is quite nice after the initial learning curve. The Audi pales in comparison. I never drove the BMW in in-climate weather but it never felt as surefooted as my Subaru STi or the Audi. Performance wise and feelinwise I consider the Audi a better car. Looks also I like the RS stance. I like the GS37x sedan but the lack of the real manual tranny is a big deterrent. That said I have never driven one. So I cannot say much about it.
Good luck in whatever you decide.

I used to own a BMW as well (M3) and I loved the car but the Audi is a all purpose mobile (especially the V8 engined models). I have driven the G37 sedan (rwd & awd). They are nice but don't a the character or soul of the Audi (or German cars for that matter). I think the S4 you are looking at is over priced. Negotiate hard...it is a buyers market!

Go with the S4. After having both the S4 and the G35 AWD, I have found that the G is a wonderful "gee wiz" car, but that is where it ends. The G's AWD is far from the Audi's. Go with your heart, you will be happier in the long run. And follow the advice to negotiate that price.

Thanks for the advice. The car is an 07S4 with 11000 miles and convenience package. Ask price is $35,500 and he won't go lower. I have searched the used car directories and cant find many of these out there let alone for less month unless I go into an 06 or an 07 with higher miles. Would appreciate your thoughts on this price.

35.5k really isn't that bad for the Northeast. Via NADA a 07 with NAV is going for around 36k

Well RS4 prices have been competitive but I am thinking that RS4 prices (for a low mile car fully loaded under 15-20k miles)are about $8-10k more than $35k. The more the miles price price improves but that is a decision one has to consider/balance.
