Transmission issue - '07 B7 RS4
lately when i've been shifting to higher gears (not aggressively). there is a slight hesitation followed by a jerking thud as the transmission kicks into gear. (reminds of some of my taxi rides when the car has 300k on the transmission.)
pardon my ignorance, but is my transmission failing?
the car has 125,000km's on it, but is well maintained. unfortunatley both front ball joints are toast, but i assume thats to be expected.
any feedback would be appreciated.
cheers!

try this out
go 30mph somewhere
engage 6th gear
go full throttle for a few seconds (not too long)
If your clutch pulls steady, it's at least holding fine. If you see rpm spikes and no forward momentum, there is certainly a holding problem.
Of course this isn't great for the car as its' tough on the clutch, so only do it as a test as I said for 2-3 seconds. You'll know right away.

tried your suggestion Sakimano and the clutch held fine. tried it twice. it's going in next week for a carbon cleaning, bearing replacement and new bushings, so i'll see what the dealer says then. thanks for the suggestion.

Who's doing your carbon clean? I'm in the GTA as well and was wondering where RS4 guys are going.
