Default Trying to decide between getting an S5 or 2008 RS4. I had planned on getting an S5 until I stopped

at an Audi dealer with my wife and she spotted a 2007 Daytona RS4. She would really prefer a 4 door and I have to admit there are some occasions when I could use the 2 extra doors. My local dealer is getting a 2008 Avus RS4 in a few weeks and that would be my color choice should I choose the RS4. Whatever I choose it will be my daily driver. I frequently do long road trips (400+miles). My question for RS4 owners- Is the RS4 comfortable enough for long road trips-the seats, suspension etc.? I don't plan to track the car and don't want to do any suspension mods, at least not for awhile.

Default its comfortable, DRC is forgiving for DD use and the seats are great.

For long trips the US Spec recaros are way more comfortable then my 911 seats.

For DD use I think the RS4 will bring you more pleasure then the S5 (imo). S5 might be slightly better balanced, but the extra power and sound of the RS4 will be more entertaining on highway trips and DD use such as getting on the freeway.

Default The european reviews for the S5 are pretty disappointing..

Every review I've read so far, they come away disappointed with how uninvolving the car is for sporting driving. The engineers in particular seem frustrated with working so hard to make the car better, only to have the marketing guys come in and have a say in dialing back any feel or balance. Lifeless understeer, perfect...
I had every intention of waiting for the coupe to make it stateside, but now the RS4 looks like a better deal, plus it's available now. My vote's for the RS...

Default it's fine for long trips, as long as you don't have adults sitting in the back seat.

...unless they're tiny adults. the seats are the same as the S4, so you can try those out for comfort. supposedly the RS4 uses a softer spring rate than the S4 (because of DRC), and anecdotally it feels at least as compliant as my old '06 S4. I drove my RS4 300 miles home from the dealership when I bought it, and it was just fine.

Default Something about the A5/S5 rubs me the wrong way. I won't know for sure until I drive one, but...

at this point I'm all about the RS4.

Very comfortable for highway cruising. I love the S5 design but I think I'd rather have an RS4.

Default I just got back from a 3500 mile road trip, with my 85 yo dad

Totally comfortable for driving even 14 hours in a day.

Default Thanks for the replys. At this point I am leaning toward the RS4. It really would be more

useful for me. I rarely have people in the back and only for short distances but I've always liked the idea of a super sedan. I just wanted to be sure the ride wasn't too harsh for long drives. If its as good as the S4 that's fine. I do wish I could get the B&O sound system though.

The RS4 is remarkably compliant for long drives and an absloute hoot on the back roads.

Agreed, I like it, but sometimes it seems a bit Chevy-ish in style
