Jet Jockey/A4 Pilot

This is not 100% final yet because there are a few things left to do to secure the unit in place and the whole dash too. There is still the GPS sensor to install and hook up and there is some programming that will be required.

Today I found out that there is a new GPS sensor out from AIM. The antenna is smaller, the unit tracks more satellites for better accuracy and the unit communicates faster with the data logger. This means I might be another two or three weeks without some data being able to be used while using the Pista (like speed input).

As you will see some of the data is missing. Now we connected the Pista to the CANBUS via two CANBUS wires (+/-). We are not sure at this time if all info is available through the CANBUS and we are not sure if this is an AIM thing or the fact that I pulled so many electronic modules from the car that some of the CANBUS data is missing. When the GPS comes on line we will have speed, G Forces, the gear selection and hopefully others.

Remember the two aluminium brackets. They are now used to secure the Pista in place within the dash.

This too I'm very happy about. We used a sheet of Carbon Fibre and fitted the Pista to it. On the left side of the Pista we added the ATL fuel cell fuel gauge (not used for now). To its right I installed the boost gauge.

Finally the Pista, the boost gauge and the fuel gauge installed inside the OEM cluster area of the dash. The power is "ON" but the car is not running. We used 4 aluminium screws to secure the Pista to the dash. The screws are gold in colour but will be replaced with black ones.

Here's the set up with the engine running and the Pista in its night mode function (indigo blue). The read outs shown are (L to R)... water temp (68C), air intake temp (47C), local time (08:14), oil temp (not available/sensor not installed yet), TPS at 0% because the engine is at idle. Both the gear selection and speed are missing because they are a function of the GPS.

The next pictures will show you the different parameters available so far when scrolling through the menu. Here the time as been replaced by a distance parameter.

Here I increased the engines RPM (2590) and you can see that the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor) shows it at 13.2% open.

On the left side of the display we now see the water temp as risen to 75C and the AIT is at 41C. The oil temp is not functional.

Scrolling through the left menu we change from oil temp to a fuel function that's not working and to its right we change from TPS to some sort of G Force which will need the GPS input to work.

Finally a small video clip showing the Pista at work. Sorry for the bumpy road conditions. IIRC the shift lights are programmed as follows...

First green light on at 5400 RPM
Second green light on at 5800 RPM.
Yellow light comes on at 6200 RPM. Please note that the green lights now turn yellow.
First red light on at 6600 RPM.
Second red light plus flashing at 6800 RPM. There is no way you are going to miss those shift lights!

I think I may be mistaken, but did I interpret that the AIM unit uses GPS data to calculate lateral G's?

didn't feel like spending on the deutsch autosports?
