Default V8 S4 vs RS4 performance opinions?

Greetings all,

Based on all of the positive information & reviews I have placed an order for a 2008 RS4. The problem is that I have yet to actually drive one. No big deal, I've purchased many a vehicle that I never driven and I have yet to be disappointed, just not one of this price and caliber. The dealer did have an S4 that I was able to take on an extended test drive.

My question is this, could anyone who has had the experience of driving both an S4 and an RS4 comment on the differences in handling, acceleration and braking?

Multiply your experience by 1000. The RS4 is just so much more. It's hard to justify the price premium over an S4, until you actually drive it. Nothing but smiles afterward.

Default Technically, no, but......

I *think* it is one model year,'07, but will be in production from '06 through early '08.

Default Night and Day. RS4 is a totally different animal. You won't be disappointed......

Imagine V8 power in an engine that revs like a Honda S2000 motor accompanied by a ripping chainsaw-like exhaust note under hard acceleration

Thanks everyone for all the responses. I will be receiving one of the last of the production RS4's in March of 08'. I asked the dealer the very same question and he told me that the vehicle will be a 2008 model, not a 2007 model for two years (sort of what happened with the RS6). In fact, the Audi rep was at the dealer at the time which lends weight to his response. No matter though, whatever the year on the doorjamb, it'll be brand new!

Default Why wait till march 08

Are they sold out? When I looked at ordering one in January they said 4 month delivery. I would go crazy waiting a year. Only issue, Carbon Fiber int. trim was hard to get. Last check I saw roughly 20+ new available around the country. I found mine in Maryland, The dealers are not swapping around so you have to deal direct.

In a word? Finances. I 'll pay my house off in 11/07, and the newfound cashflow sans mortgage will allow me to afford the monthly payment on the RS (That and 20K down).

Thanks Vijay and others for feedback on S vs RS performance. To tell the truth I was a bit disappointed with the S4's performanance. I just thought it would be stronger. In the S4's defense, there ws only 47 miles on the clock so I'm sure that with miles the engine would have broken in and run a lot stronger. Plus being a person with mechanical empathy, I did not want to repeatedly beat on a brand new motor.

Default the difference in performance more than makes up for the difference in price....

...better performance in every way, while retaining the comfort and luxury features. It's a no-brainer.

Default I waited 13 months for mine.

ordered May 2005, took delivery June 2006. I had a 2006 S4 to drive while I was waiting, though.
