Valentine 1 Hardwire (2007 RS4)
I'm an electronics novice with a V-1 radar detector and want to hardwire it using a switchable source on my car. I already ran the detector wire down the front of the headliner and down the front A pillar into the fuse area. Does anyone know which of the open fuse psitions I should use to make the detector power switchable?
Also, the cable provided by V-1 has a lead covered in plastic on the end of the red wire. It doesn't fit into any of the open positions. I also conected the black wire to a screen in the fuse area as a ground.
Can someone guide me through the install from this point on?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answers to your questions......
The end of the power lead on the V1 needs to be modified. You need to remove the plastic coveing, then shave down the connector width so that it will fit into one of the empty fuse slots. This can all be accomplished very nicely with a Dremel tool and several of its assorted attachment bits.
In terms of a switched/non-switched slot, it will be trial and error. Mine is hooked up to an unswitched slot so I have to turn my detector on and off. No big deal really. Even if it is left on, it is not a major power drain.

I put my V1 in position 31 but many will work. Also, I just purchased a fuse tap from radio shack and clipped off the blue plastic sleeve around the red wire. Then I was able to attach it to the fuse tap and slip the fuse tap into the fuse. If you search the forums there are some step by step pictures of the install but it's pretty easy.

Does anyone have a picture of how it looks in the car after it is mounted?
Here's a link to an previous thread that crossed my mind, but it does not show a picture of the unit itself.

Concealed V-1 Display
