same thing happened to my 750i the first week of ownership...
...except is was one of those HUGE carts, the ones used to move lumber around, at Lowe's. And it appeared to be a runaway cart situation, because it left a huge dent in the fender. The entire fender had to be repainted...$600.
No amount of parking paranoia is too much...people can't be trusted.

Re: I find business parking lots to be almost as bad as mall parking lots...
One of my previous cars got so many dings from a$$holes at my office that I had to start parking at the far end of the lot once I got my S4. I was so paranoid I would park across 2 spaces even though no-one ever parked out that far. 6+ years later I somehow remain ding free, so I wonder how "stupid" I'll be once I get my RS4 ??? My fellow co-workers have complained because they have to walk too far to get to my car when I drive... They just don't understand!

Don't feel bad...
I got hit by a golf ball which left a minimal ding in the flare in front of the left rear tire. I searched the whole car for damage with the golfer standing there and missed it.

No surprise given that people don't respect their property, their bodies, etc.
why would they give a shxt about our cars. There are some that believe car dings "should be" expected. Clearly, I'm not one of those folks. Hopefully, there was no damage on your car.

Exact same thing happened to me one day in my new A3. Not a single cart
to be seen anywhere only to find about 4 or 5 of them around my goddam car after about 30 minutes inside the store. One of them hit and slightly dented the passenger side door. I was pissed! People really are inconsiderate.

I always park away from the door and at the highest point in the lot. Doesn't stop it all, but
it helps in some cases.
I absolutely despise the jerkwads (often female) who stuff their full size SUV in a compact space, thereby not even leaving me room to climb into my car despite weighing 100lbs and not needing much of an opening. Got to roll down the window and climb in, or go in from the passenger side. !@***%$!!**%%^^^!!!

Same thing happened to me also
I now park in the furthest possible spot with no cars to the left or right of me if possible. I still have to get that minor ding in my door fixed. I hate people who arent considerate.

That's why I always park in the back of the lot in a corner spot....
I would rather walk 10 minutes then trust that people in my area are considerate.
