What are you guys doing about oil at your dealer scheduled oil changes?

Are you bringing your own or just letting the dealer put whatever they have in it, trusting it will be ok for the RS4 ?

Just curious what the consensus is.

I also have to grab some oil for top-offs, but if I want to bring my own to the dealer, I will probably just order bulk off the internet. No ?

Don't you think the dealer is competent enough to use the correct oil?

I guess some can't be trusted. You wouldn't actually know what they put in unless you ask in advance or specify a certain type. BUT they have to use an Audi approved oil. Or at least you would assume that they would.

they used the same oil I've been using for topping off.

Castrol Syntec 5W-40. I think it's safe to say most Audi dealerships in the US are using that.

Actually, many of the dealers are using Castrol 5W40 TXT

I bring my own in. I'm currently using Motul E-tech 8100 0W-40 from http://www.performanceoilstore.com/index.htm

My dealer is using Mobile1 Truck & SUV Synthetic SAE 5W40 for Gas and Diesel. They gave me a..

quart to carry just in case but as of today I rolled past 2500 and all is good. I think some people may be adding oil because the stick is hard to read. If you blot it on a non embossed white paper towel you can see the level. If you dip a clean stick and try to see the oil on the hash mark it is almost impossible to read on the stick. The engineers at Audi stated that any overfilling will be quickly burned by the engine. If some of you are misreading the stick and keep filling then that may explain some of the early reports of the engine being an oil burner.

I am now pushing the engine to its limits and have hit the rev limiter a few times. I plan on continuing to occasionally enjoy the limits of this engine so I will be having the oil changed tomorrow and will send a sample off for testing. The results will be posted as soon as possible.

Just got an oil change by the dealership. They used...

Mobil 10w30. It is NOT what is recommended in the manual. The recommended oil is 5w40 and next time I am definitely going to be bringing in my own oil.

If you already paid the warranty for 5 years of service, you should let them know you intend to bring your own oil so you can recoup some costs of the service elsewhere.

Hehe.. some are not competent enough to remove the suspension blocks when prepin the RS4..soooo.. :)

You're freaking kidding right? Well does this answer your question Dr GP?

RI A6 10-30-2006 06:48 AM

If you're in a cold weather area, you want to have that 10W30 oil removed

It's too heavy and will cause additional wear under cold starting conditions.
