What's your formula for aural "tuning"
These past few weeks I searched for a replacement car but after seeing what's out there, sedan under around $100,000 are flat out b-o-r-i-n-g compared to the RS4. Just can't see myself living with a boring car! After giving this a lot of thought, I believe one of the main (OK, many) attractions to my RS4 is the beautiful music the motor and exhaust makes with the ECS Tuning H-pipe.
So after owning this car for a full 7 years, here's what I've learned to maximize the sound quality (not quantity) from the drivers seat (S-button on, of course):
#1: Windows up, left rear window down about 2".
#2: Next best is windows up, 40% rear seat folded down.
Any other combination of windows down and/or seat down doesn't seem as nice. With both rear seat sections down, or even with one side down, it quickly becomes an unrefined, tiresome, noisy ordeal. Besides, I don't like to ride around with windows down because it gets the interior dusty.
What's your formula to make the best (not most) sound?

Timely topic as i'm beginning to lust for some more growl from my car. I get differing views on whether to go X-pipe (Magnaflow) or H-pipe (ECS)
Both seem cost-effective options for bettering the OEM sound.
Probably stirring the pot, but love to get opinions.
Oh and I find with the top down and S-button on, no better music to my ears. Sorry all you sedan guys!

I am totally satisfied my my stock exhaust, windows up or down. However, the auxiliary fuel pump whine gets to me sometimes when I drive with windows down.

I actually like the whine. I like wine too
RS4Life, top down's not even fair. My previous drop-top cars exhaust always sounded amazing with the top down.

I've got the American Muscle V-8 to get my kicks with anyway.

You guys with drop tops are killing me It's just not fair....
Drivingfool - While we're on the topic of sound and noise, your car has the windscreen attached in the photo. I was thinking about buying one for our A4 cab. Do you recommend it?

I still miss the RS4, which of course sounded way more authoritative than the S6...but the S6 trunk holds way more cases of wine...

I sure do.....makes a huge difference. You can easily travel up to 80 without your hair blowing away.... Also if the top is down when its cooler ( <60 degrees ) climate control actually works pretty well!
