Default Who on here did the "oil trap door mod"......

I'm going to change oil today and take some measurements and pictures to come up with a cool well worked trap door design. Would like to see what others have come up with....... Thanks.

Default If it had not been for the fing brake duct bolts taking me over 24 hours to get

all four to catch - I would not have done this. I would try for a hour and then take a break and go back and undo the three that were caught and try again only to have a different fourth one that would not catch.

Default I bought an allroad that had it done very well.

He did a drain plug with the fitting in it too, so you just popped the door, screwed on the hose, drained, changed filter, refill, done.

Not to bash anyone, but it was also a much cleaner design than a door hinge. He made the cutout and preserved the removed piece and used that as a filler with some nice quick release brackets and a single bolt.

Default Consider using...

...a hidden hinge if your planning to do this. You can find these parts commonly used in aviation and other custom apps.

Try these guys

Default I'm actially thinking of just using a cover (plastic or metal) with 2 to 4 fasteners.

Cut a section out to access oil drain and then drill and insert threaded fastener inserts (like the ones for the license plate) so the screws have something to bite into to hold the cover in place.

I saw some nice electrical box covers both round and square that would work great. They come in both metal and plastic.

Default What size access hole did you make......

My sheet metal guy just dropped off a 6x6 and a 8x8 stainless piece on my desk.

Default Not sure what the size was - I think it was more like 4x5

Have to get under to measure again
