Who out there runs all seasons for winter tires???
I was thinking about throwing on a pair of 19" all seasons and running them as winters. ANyone ever do this and can tell me how good the tires are in a few inches of snow. I have the PS2s, and from having had them on my S4, they are useless and dangerous in 1/2 inch of snow....
I am on the coast of CT, we don't get much snow here, and I have another 4 wheel drive for those bad days...the only risk would be a weekend up in VT or Maine and getting caught in a dumping. I just think a narrow 18" wheelset would do some beauty damage to this car.

I run all seasons on my S4 and can go well in the snow. AND
as long as there is less than 8"-12" you will go fine. Over that I would not want to trust it without snow tires. I also have a SUV for the bad days, but those have been few and far between in the past 3 yrs in SE PA.(Fortunately, since I hate snow!)

I lived in Colorado Springs and did 45+ days a year snowboarding at Vail and Breck
in my B5 A4 on the OEM all-seasons on my ballar OEM 15"s. Those were much narrower than your 19"s are likely to be, however, so that's what would worry me about your setup.
Having said that, after I purchased my first set of Blizzaks I would never again do all-seasons if I thought I was going to see snow.

I use Michelin pilot alpins on my S4, and the all season version of the michelin on my allroad...
I would not recommend any all seasons unless if you see hardly any snow. the difference between the two is that big.

Snow depth is not really the problem most of the time (unless it's really deep) - it's temperature.
Road conditions vary so widely due to ambient temperature that's it's hard to say that a tire is good to a certain snow depth.
If you get a fair amount of snow each year and want the extra comfort & traction of dedicated snow tires, get some. Given the price of the cars we are discussing, it's a small price to pay. It also lessens the wear on your summer tires, but you will give up some performance.
I had both Nokian Hakkapeliittas and then Michelin Pilot Alpin PA2s on my old S4. Both were very good in the snow and I still had fun driving on them in good weather.
I live in Denver and we generally get around 10 snow days a winter, which doesn't sound like very much. But for those 10 days I would rather have my snow tires on than all-seasons. I generally run my snow tires for 5-6 months of the year!

I'm up in Boston.. Just picked up some 19" all seasons
Yoko Advan S4's from Tirerack
Basically, if you live in the city, 95% of the conditions you will experience is slush/salt and wet conditions. Occasionally some snow, and rarely ice. For that, all-seasons M+S are fine.
I am also probably moving away from snowy areas next year so I don't want to buy a set of snows only to throw out at the end of the season. That goes for 18" rims even more so.
