Why should I go for an RS4 over a 335i? Seems like equal performance for $20K less... damn

Default My take...

The RS4 performance is slightly better. It's a few ticks quicker to 200 km/h (16.6 vs 20.7). With equal tires, the RS4 is about 10 seconds quicker on the 'ring.

The performance of the 335i lies between the S4 and RS4.

I think the looks and interior of the RS4 are much better.

If you're into tuning though, the 335i may be a better bet, but I would only go with light mods on that motor.

Default Apparently someone took notice of the popularity and the following of the B5 S4.

Its a shame that Audi dropped the 2.7T motor and did not replace it with somthing like a 2.9 biturbo FSI. I would not go for the 335i because it does not have quattro, and I can't stand the BMW interior.

Default in stock form, the 4.2 is better than the 2.7T in every way.

torque, HP, sound, flexibility. highway mileage is a bit better in the 2.7, but that's about it.

Default In the midrange, even a stock 2.7 can be more flexible than the 4.2...

Default So 10 seconds faster on the 'Ring is "slightly better"? Riiight...

Are we seriously comparing these two cars? For the luv of gawd..

Not only is the car faster, it is better in every way, shape and form when it comes to handling, steering, interior, looks, sound, comfort, prestige/exclusivity..

What next? We're going to get comparisons between the RS4 and a G35 Sedan?

This is just getting ridiculous.

Default The only thing "equal" in "performance" between these two cars..

is that they both perform equally well at getting you from point a to point b.

That's about where their similarities begin and end.

If you think Car & Hater makes this a tough choice for you, drive the RS4 after driving the 335i and then see how hard the choice is.

It's times like these I wish this forum had a variety of face icons to use because this thread badly needs them.

Default Well...

people like to compare the S4 and RS4. The 335i fits between the two in terms of performance.

I think you're getting ahead of yourself.

I haven't driven the 335i yet, but there is a good chance the steering is better than in the RS4 simply due to the RWD platform and better chassis balance. On paper, the RS4 should have better performance marks basically across the board, unless you are talking about around town or top gear acceleration. The 335i has quite a bit more low end torque.

The performance difference between the old M3 and 335i is quite small.
