Will removing the CATALYST cause CEL?
I have removed CAT on my tt225 and it does not give any CEL. I was wondering if it is the same for RS4.
please don't ask me why I want to remove the CAT.

Why do you want to remove the cat?
That's a violation of the clean air act with a maximum fine of $200,000, $25,000 for a dealer or manufacturer, and a minimum of $2500.
Yes, it's a VERY stupid law IMO. But VERY politically correct if that's the type you voted for.

You are SO lucky. But unfortunately you'll likely see the CEL due to CAT efficiency error
There are some electronic devices available that "trick" the O2 sensors into thinking that the CATS are still there.

I don't know if any tuner as looked into modifying an RS4 ECU for possible gains in performance...
I know that on the S4, REVO, APR and GIAC have done it but perhaps the RS4 as no issues with the DBW the S4 seemed to have.
I also know when it comes to the CAT; REVO reprogrammed the ECU to fool it into thinking the CAT was still in the system. At least that's what they do on the 1.8Ts when people go strait pipe.

It depends...are you relocating any of the 02 sensors?
If you do, I think you'll trigger a CEL. Even if you don't, if there are any sensors aft of any of the cats (I believe there's one pair aft of the cats), it's conceivable that even the addition of a freer flower cat WILL affect A/F ratios (and with FSI, who knows if you're really pushing your luck at that point)and it stands to reason, could trigger a CEL, but only testing will tell.
Regardless, removing the cats is NOT a good idea. Typically, while there may be a small bump in HP at the very, very top of the rpm range, we USUALLY see loss of torque across most of the power band.
EIther way, I wouldn't do it without ECU tuning.
