Winter Set

There are two sides to every story, but it general people are doing the following:
1. Getting a set of 18" rims and mounting a set of 225/45 (I think) snow tires on them. The reason being that the narrower tire cuts through snow more easily than a wider tire. Thee have been several threads on this recently, so read back a week or two.
2. Getting a set of 19" oem rims, or similar and then mounting a set of stock size 255/35 snow tires. The reason being that if you don't get that much snow, but want a better experience than summer tires in the snow (terrible), the snow tires in stock size give you good winter performance on dry pavement or snow conditions. It's all about compromise.
For what's worth, I think you will find that people are split about 50/50 on these 2 options at the moment.

Here's one good thread for winter packages:

I went with #2. 19"OEM and 255/35 Dunlops
Rims from Hartmann. Went with 19 as I have a SUV for the crap winter days, shich is less than 10/year. Snows only on from Dec to middle March. had 17s on my S4, and compared to the 18s they looked pretty poor. I think the 18s on the RS4 would really take away from the look, but if you get a lot of snow, or do not have another vehicle for storm days, driving up to the slopes, then go with the 18s.
I'll post the 19s after turkey day so you can all see.

Just remember winter tires aren't necessarily for snow
Most know this but just in case -
The stock tires are max performance and designed to grip the pavement above the glass point - around 40 degrees F. Below that temp, they are hard as stone and are a safety hazard. So even if you don't expect much snow, don't count on the stock tires in the cold.

That's right. I went with the Pilot Sport A/S on 19" stock wheels.
I had them on my B6S4 and loved them. Incredible winter and rain tires. Good driving in most snow conditions on well-maintained roads.
