It is straight from BMW (Performance Division), so true OE fit and finish (just needs programming from dealer). Wish Audi offered such a steering wheel.
Some of the highlights include:
Shift lights with adjustable rev-limiter (optimal shift points)
Oil and Coolant temp gauge
Lap timer
G-force/lateral acceleration meter
Alcantara Leather combo
Attaching a quick demo video<ul><li><a href="http://video.aol.com/video-detail/bmw-performance-steering-wheel-for-e82-e90-e92-135i-m3-335i/3928826611">BMW Performance Steering Wheel</a></li></ul>

Its a killer wheel, but those LEDs that light up when you rev are too much for me
A great car though and I look forward to your mods and what an ECU tune and aftermarket exhaust will do......

Those are adjustable, you can swith them off
In fact, you can switch off any part of the wheel you don't like, part of the whole beauty about it. And you can change the color too, you can have Green, Red, BMW Orange, etc.

Yup, I know Ryan, ICS worked on my M5 quite a lot
Funny thing is, I was talking about buying his buddy's Alpine White 135i, but had too many options I didn't want (iDrive, Premium package), hence not in the price I was looking for. He's a good guy, picking his brain on some mods...

may I suggest this is a really silly gadget?
All of that should be on the HUD, just right under your line of vision - always accessible, easily readable without need to glance on the wheel etc.
It is done sufficiently well on the BMW HUD (M5/M6/X6), or Lexus RX350 (the best I've seen so far), or Corvette.

Well,
I don't know if silly is the words I would use, but to each their own. Is it necessary? Def not. But sure, there are cheaper ways to go about it (a GTech Pro will give you all that for a lot less). But is neat, it is original equipment, and it comes with the nice bonus of alcanatara.
As far as the HUD, I agree, nice but not offered on the 1- or 3- series, so this is better. In fact, it is less of a distraction (it is more or less on the same line of sight as the HUD screen but less of a disturbance) and your periferal vision is enough to react to it so (e.g. shift lights) so you don't have to be formally 'pinned' to the HUD display/screen.
