Wrong oil for this car?
Curious for the input of other owners. After my first oil change (2500 miles), the engine is running about 4-5 degrees celcius hotter (107 vs 102 celcius) with gentle city driving. Dealer put in Castrol synthetic 5-40.
Did he use the wrong oil for this car?
Thanks guys..

heh, I wondered. To answer is question, Castrol Syntec 5w-40 is appropriate...
for the RS4 although Scott (RI RS4) has seen some UOA of it not performing well, it does meet requirements.

not to touch on a sore point, but which synthetic in the right visc doesn't anymore?
besides a couple small brands that don't bother with getting approval? seems we have come full circle and can throw in any of the huge and fast growing list of synthetics that we choose to.

Castrol Syntec meets the spec ... and you can run summer tires on snow and ice too ...
But it's not surprising that it raised your oil temperature. If you read some other posts I've done on oil you'll find that it is so far the worst performing oil in this engine. It does not seal the rings well and becomes fuel diluted quickly. It also has higher wear than pretty much any other oil that I've seen analyzed. Increased wear means more friction, thus higher temperature. Fuel dilution means reduced viscosity and lower thermal mass, thus high temperature rise with the same energy.
What you are seeing is a real life demonstration that all oils are not created equal.
