Your coil packs Red or Black?
Just wondering if anyone has replaced original Red coil packs with latest revision "F" that are all Black?
I received my first misfire code, this happened just after I installed plugs & then Fuel filter, when I went to Audi dealer to buy replacement suspect coil pack parts guy came out with one that was all Black, being a little OCD I asked why the Black color now and he said this supersedes original Red ones with # 07K 905 715 F (Black), mine are all 077 905 115 T (Red)
After hearing this it made me wonder if I was missed on Audi Coil Pack replacement campaign 28E9, yet when I contacted Audi USA they said they show no open items for my Vin#, the dealer service dept. told me the same.
With this I'm thinking of just buying the remaining 7 packs to give me a complete new set since other packs might start to become problematic, not to mention engine bay will have matching color coil packs.

Mine had the recall and they're all black. Can't say I remember what the original color was, though. If I had to guess, it seems they were black too but I could easily be mistaken.

Thanks Elevens, your picture encouraged me to google the "RS4 4.2 engine", and what I found was Black coils pictured on all RS4 engines pictured, I only found pictures of my Red / black coils when searched engines for S4's, S8's, R8's... so your original black coils were probably just an old revision replaced with new "F" revision that are also Black.
This has me wondering if the original owner of my RS4 replaced coils at one point with these Red/Black ones to dress up engine bay, still unsure if they are really compatible. I'm going to email him and ask. Either way I'm going to just buy 7 more Black "F" type coils to ensure i'm running the correct coil.

Today I installed the remaining 7 coils with new "F" revision, I placed one of the coils I pulled out 077 905 115 T (Red) side by side with the new 07K 905 715 F (Black) I was installing, and it was evident the new coils were different - longer, The replacement coils now feel like they are making positive connection with plug tip and also the rubber seal feels tight, not sure how or why those Red coils were installed, 1st owner said he never changed coils so possibly the last owner did?? Car runs great now!! I'm hoping my pictures work this time..new to this forum stuff..
