any ex-porsche 911 owners in the house?

hey folks,

here's my sitch: i'm heading down the married guy, and eventual dadhood, route. my daily is an '06 b7 a4 avant and my weekend ride is a '96 carrera coupe. can't drive the 911 every day because of the crappy road conditions and thick traffic in my area. plus, the wife and i can only keep two cars, so it's either, get her something or give her the avant. that said, thinking about a b6 or b7 s4. anybody here make a similar move from a p-car to an S4? any regrets?

if i go with a used b7, any issues to watch out for? sorry for the long post. thanks much in advance for any thoughts.

cheers,

ingolstadt blau

'95 993...last of the air-cooled 911's

To this day, I still shiver about all the maintenance she required (in the shop about once every 2-3 months for non-trivial repairs). However, it was the most thrilling car to drive and to look at in the garage out of all my cars. The P-car is the only car to have ever taken me to that elusive automotive nirvana...

Hmm. As much as I like the S4 (I have a B7) it's probably not the most exciting car for a weekend ride - after driving a Porsche, I mean :)

Would it be possible to get the RS4 (you'd love driving it EVERY day of the week) for you and something else, maybe a bit more economical and less expensive, for the wife? She deserves a good car without a question, but it seems that most women aren't that passionate about automobiles and they are more than happy driving, well, less flashy and sporty cars. On the other hand, if she's into cars, she's the one driving the RS4 all the time and you get to drive the Toyota ;)

In my opinion the S4 is a very good workhorse and daily driver (and a very quick one) but I wouldn't compare it to a Porsche. Having said that, I love taking the S4 out for a weekend blast but I'd still rather have a Porsche for that. Or the RS4...

I just bought my b7 S4 at the end of June. I also have a 97 993, however, I just put it up for sale the other day. So far, love the S4. Great power, handling, braking, plus every day comfort. The 911 I have alway loved since being a kid, and have loved driving it every day I have owned it. Will I miss it, absolutely. But, I will own another Porsche again, just a convertible next time.

Good luck with your decision.
