Brake lights turning on

For the past week or so my brake lights have been turning on. This happens when the car is off and I have left. As near as I can figure anywhere between a few minutes to a few hours. If I open the door and pump the brakes it goes off, but will come back later.

Any ideas?

In addition I have been noticing the following:

Possibly related:
-While driving, gas pedal will stop working. It gets mushy and you can push it to the floor with not response. The fix is to let it return to 0 throttle and press down again. This happens maybe once every 10-20 minutes.
-Trouble starting. Car does not turn over, happens intermittently. Sometimes takes 5 key turns to start, once it starts turning over, no issues.
-Misfires, and...

Don't know about the brake lights but I've noticed some strange things happening with my turn indicators. Had what sounds like the same starting issue. Just check the forums. But it ended up getting much worse with time (sometimes hours to start the car). Cold weather definitely had an adverse effect on it. The solenoid went bad apparently, it was CPO so I'm not sure how much it costs to replace. But sounds like you'll definitely need a new starter.

These seem to all be electrical issues... is it too optimistic to hope that there is a single fix?

don`t know if this might help. recently my S4 tiptronic would change gear, the engine management light would come on and the ESP would stop working. it turned out i had a faulty brake light switch. the brake lights would stay on. This made the computer think i was pushing the brake pedal which in turn stopped the system change gear etc. I had the brake switch replaced and this cured all the problems. Good Luck!

had the same problem with my s4 and was quite annoying as the battery kept dying with it. the same when i was driving the throttle would stop working as well. it was something to do with the break sensor and it needed adjusting. took it into a local garage and he sorted in in less than half hour and all runninn fine now.

Yep - Turns out the it was a faulty break switch. Also indicated by the traction control light coming on. It is too bad I needed new breaks, and aux radiator, or it would have been a cheap trip.
