Got my car back going for a drive....(longish, Q at end)
New engine installed, running fine. Moderate rpm and shifting for first 500 mi - then it's back to the redline.
The notes on the service record are interesting.
The first problem I had (whisteling noise) is chalked up to TSB#13-04-03 - they replaced rollers, belt and generator per tsb. (I also needed manifold bolts torqued per TSB#24-04-02.)
During the alternator TSB the tech noticed coolant leaking and once the new seals arrived, he remarked "source of leak as coming from seal between engine block and engine guide frame and not from a porous engine block. Contacted techline a third time to deremine if replacing engine or resealing current engine. Told to do the later [sic]..."
Then, during reassembly a "portion came out of block". The tech further describes, "When torquing engine guide frame bolt next to PTO drive opening- to 9Nm- portion of engine block came out at PTO drive openeing. Engine block could not be repaired. Removed and replaced engine block per FOM after contacting techline."
I have the following question. The worksheet shows ordering of a "complete short block 8 cyl", and the tech remarks to installing a "long block". What, if any, is the difference here?
All told, had my car since Oct 29th. Scottsdale Audi North did an excellent job taking care of me and my car. It had a nice detail done to it when I picked it up - the finish looks like new.
TIA.<ul><li><a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/s4b6/msgs/163221.phtml">new engine for me - pics of broken block</a></li></ul>

A long block has more new components than a short block
By that I mean that less old parts from the original engine are needed to re assemble the long block VS the short block. What those additinal parts are, I am not totally sure.
