Default I dont get it

The new SLK55 AMG only comes with a new 7 speed automatic.

The SLK350 has a 6 speed manual. Is this due to MB not having a 6 speed manual that can handle the power/torque of the AMG engine?

Hmmm. That car would be phenominal with a stick.

Default I think your right...

I asked myself the same exact question. The new 3.5 is a pretty amazing motor. ANd with that 6 speed, goes pretty quickly!!!

But with that AMG motor, gimme 6 speed manual or gimme...well, gimme something else. ;-)

Default i think that 7-speed is suppposed to be very...

nicely executed. faster shifts than humans.

hopefully, audi DSG will make it onto S/RSs and provide the same.

Default Slushboxes have always had the *ability* to shift more quickly than humans...

...though they weren't always programmed to do so. Also, that advantage has never been enough to offset their frictional losses and--until recently--their comparatively fewer gear ratios. Now that Mercedes has developed an automatic transmission that has more forward gears than its manual counterpart, the lone remaining disadvantage (frictional loss) is overcome by shift quickness and gear count.

Default I wonder how that could be....how can upshift be smooth as silk, but downshifts or mid shifts

sometimes feel like it's slamming the car in gear. I guess it's 'normal' until you leave your transmission behind one day (and as luck would have it, there's a good probability it'll only happen at 50,005 miles.)
