OT: Impression of cars that replaced my B6 S4
Prev Ride: 6MT, PSS9 c/o system, ESC BBK, Strat intake, GIAC programming, LTW battery.
Car #1: I picked up a low-mileage RS6 (Silver Avus, Ebony interior, 9K miles, CPO'd) last month. It is one smooth autobahn burner. Sure, she's HEAVY at 4200#, but she feels fairly agile for her size and weight, and the overall steering and road feel is exemplary, less numb (believe it or not) than the B6 S4 - Im not kidding. It communicates road feel better while being less harsh.... I always felt the S4 had a spine-jarring ride, even stock. The S4 cornered slightly better (as you'd expect being 500 lbs lighter), but not by as large a margin as you'd think.....The RS6 is MUCH faster from a dead stop or rolling down the highway. I continually catch myself going 90 without noticing it. Part of that is how damn quiet and luxurious the car rides... Its engine is ultra smooth and sikly, and has a wonderful exhaust note.... LOVE IT!!! Car #2: Warm weather car. '99 E36 M3 vert I picked up super clean from So Cal. Just completed the Eurosport Twin-Screw SC (see pics below) which delivers an ultra-linear 435 crank/350 wheel hp, ultra flat tq curve. This car is the Mr Hyde to the RS6's Dr. Jeckel. MUCH more fun to drive now that the blower is in. I raced my RS6 on the open highway, and The M3 is faster than the RS6, no doubt about it.... Add to that the RWD, good weight balance approaching 50/50 (vert top motor/hardware adds some rear weight) and a reasonable absolute weight of 3350 lbs, and she handles better than the RS6 and the B6 S4 that came before her, and this is with stock wheels and suspension. This is dyno from E36 owner with same set up - note shape of tq curve and linearity of the hp.... More info in the kit here: http://www.eurosporthighperformance.com/supercharger.html Of course the RS6 offers grip, comfort, style and class unreachable by the M3. Both are total sleepers. I have definitely shocked a few unsuspecting ricers out there (most recently an Evo MR in the RS6). I'll always have a special place in my heart for the B6 S4, but felt it didn't deliver fully on either luxury or pure sport performance, so I split my "needs" into two different cars, each faster than the S4 (the M3 considerably moreso), each with its unique charm...... |
nice batch of cars there...
Glad you are enjoying your newly aquired rides a and mods on the M3. I would love an RS6 - are you going to do any mods to it?
|
Not any time soon, but possibly next year. Dont wanna mess with CPO status.

Quick question about your wheels...
What kind of wheels are those on the RS6? Are they RS4 replicas?
