you're 3/4 maybe 5/6 on the throttle. Have you guys noticed this? I'm pretty sure it has to do with a map, maybe the car figures you're going to be wanting to accelerate quickly if you're 3/4s of the throttle and past 4-4.5k.

Anyway, so I feel a jolt and fall back into the chair a bit more, but at the same time I realize this is not what I wanted to happen and ease off of the pedal. It's unsafe, frankly. The car is controlling itself.

This does not happen when I'm flat out accelerating. I have to be in 2nd, revs pretty low and then I step on it 3/4s...and once it's about 4.5k it kicks me bag and really gets moving.

I don't think it has to do with the powerband of the car because the change is too abrupt for an NA car. It has do with the mapping.

Happy days. It feels like the second choke of a Weber opening. You young whippersnappers won't even know what it's like to drive a car without fuel injection. Always fun when it happened mid corner on a wet day.

Seriously, it reminds me of the VTEC system in the Honda (Acura) V-6 when the revs hit 4k.
