two more questions... am I correct to assume that bi-xenon wasn't even an option on the 2004 S4?
and second...
I know this is supposedly "plug and play" but, I'm reading in the archives that I may need new high beam bulbs... (not sure if that is only for the bi-xenon installs or not).
how long does it take to do the install? I know the B5 headlights "could" be a PITA... I'm about to pull the trigger on these.
Thanks again everyone...

2004 had standard xenons, but installing the bi-xenon's is plug and play.
The lamps will likely ship with city lights and high beam bulbs.
You will need a set of single filament twist-style turn signal bulbs (the US headlights have dual filament wedge style).
Swapping everything out is a breeze if you have the right tools.

thanks brother!!! I just called achtuning, they are out of stock for the headlights
so it looks like i'll be going with AWE or Avalon... I know AWE ships them with with the city lights and side markers, not sure on the high beams though...
once again, AW comes through!

Mine came from Avalon and had city lights and high beam bulbs.
Even if they didn't, assuming you bought the single xenon's, you could swap the high beam bulbs over from the US to the e-codes.
The reality of it is that these lamps are shipped directly to Achtuning, AWE and Avalon from the same place, so the bulbs included will be the same.

Bi-Xenon vs. single Xenon
Single AND bi-Xenon headlights have both a Xenon and a halogen bulb. When the high beams are activated in a bi-Xenon setup, the halogen bulb comes on and a shutter opens in the Xenon lens that allows for more light output. If you listen closely from outside the car, you can hear the shutter click open when the high beams are switched on. When single Xenons are switched to high beam, the halogen bulb comes on but the Xenon bulb output is unchanged.
