Default What size hex key/wrench is needed for oil drain bolt?

I attempted to change my oil today, not to mention the pain it was to remove the splash shields underneat, but I was unaware that there wasn't a "normal" oil drain bolt. Does anyone know the correct size wrench/tool that is needed? Thanks

Default Do yourself a favor and buy a pump. With the filter on top, it makes getting under the car

unnecessary.

The Bentley manual states to "NOT" extract the oil by a pump.

Does it give a reason?

I would venture a guess that extracting the oil from the top is more likely to leave dirt/sediment/debris in the bottom of the oil pan to contaminate the next batch of oil than draining the old oil out the bottom (letting gravity work for you to remove the debris).

That's certainly reasonable. I just wonder if they actually cite something.

Default It doesn't make much sense. The oil is filtered and it's a closed system.

There can't be that much debris at the bottom of the oil pan because the oil in the closed system is constantly going through the filter. There should be nothing in the bottom of the tank larger than the engineers decided was acceptable to pass through the engine. Otherwise the filter isn't doing its job. At least that's how we size filters where I work.

No it doesn't give a reason at all, but I'd like to find out.

Default Seems to be an extra measure of protection...

What if a person forgoes a filter change with his oil change? Repeatedly, even? People shouldn't, but do. And it is a closed system, till some knucklehead forgets and leaves the oil cap off after an oil change. Not arguing with you, just imagining the possibilities.
