Default Why is there a button to open the fuel door?

I've been wondering this:

Why is there a button to open the fuel door?

Other recent Audis I've owned ('04 allroad, '99.5 B5 A4) have had no separate button. The fuel door unlocks when the car is unlocked and locks when the car is locked.

Why did audi feel the need to have a separate button to open the fuel door. What is the advantage?

The disadvantage is that you get all the way over to the far side of the car to fuel and realize you haven't pushed the button and have to go back , open the drivers door and push the button before returning to the fuel side.

[My '01 TT had a separate button, but that was due, I thought, to the unique construction of the oh-so-stylish fuel door on the TT.]

I told them that there was a big mechanical difference between the B6 and B7.

Default It's not just the S4; A4 has it, too

Probably figured with increasing fuel prices, fuel theft was going up. Also, it's another reason to raise the sticker prices for 2006 (altho I don't know when they started this).

Anyway, after about 2 fuel fills I think I'm used to this new feature on my S4 which my old '98 A4 didn't have.
