Another 5 - 6 weeks wait on the S4, and my Dealer has an S5 now
Seriously contemplating jumping on an S5. I ordered an S4 and still probably have 1.25 - 1.5 months to wait for it. I just saw my Dealer has a Brilliant Black S5 on inventory now - nav, BO, adv.key, leather, backup camera, except for rear sports diff.
What are it's advantages and disadvantages compared to the S4 ? What I gather is this (disregarding the $7K-$10K price difference) ..
Advantage over the S4
- Looks better externally, since it's a coupe
- Sounds better with the V8 nat. aspirated engine
Disadvantage over the S4
- Eats more gas (24mpg vs. the S4's 28mpg) - but some are saying they are getting also about 24mpg - 25mpg on the S4 ???
- Smaller space in the backseat - what if you don't need that?
- Does not have the 7-speed S-tronic .

After I ordered my S4 my dealer tried to get me to jump to an S5. I'm staying with the S4. I didn't do it because I have two kids so the four doors would be nice. I also wanted the smaller engine with better MPGs. The six week wait will be over before you know it.

DO NOT BUY AN S5, PERIOD. The only place the S5 gets 24mpg is in the land of Unicorns and when running on Leprechaun ****. Otherwise you'll be lucky to see 17 - 18 out of that 4.2 V8. It's NOWHERE near as fun to drive as the S4 in any regard unless you are just a cruiser who doesn't care about performance. They aren't anywhere in the same league performance wise. You'll absolutely REGRET buying one if you ever have a chance to drive an S4.

Is it a good idea to let your decision be dictated by not wanting to wait another six weeks for a car that you will be driving for at least three years? I would think that you would have ordered an S5 in the first place if that's what you really wanted.

Both nice cars, but not even similar to each other besides being the same brand. I test drove both, didn't need to think at all afterwards. BTW I only get get about 14 mpg on local roads with my S4, but that has more to do with my driving style. So don't expect too great of a gas mileage with the S4 and worse with the S5 if you are spirited driver. Real life performance between two cars will be minimal in everyday driving but the S4 will feel racier. Some car ownership last longer than marriages. So I think you can wait two more months for a car you really want.

S5 is so nice looking I considered it but two main items dropped it off my list. 1) it was 10 grand more and 2) at my altitude they are incredibly slow. N/A motors just get killed here in Denver. Shoot my heavy *** S4 is consistently 7/10ths quicker than even the 400+ hp M3's.
