Default Brake Squeal gone!!!!

Not sure if this has been discussed on the forum recently as I have been MIA from audiworld for a while. The only problem I have had with my car is the horrific brake squeal whenever the temperature goes below 50 degrees. I've bedded them numerous times and tried all possible remedies short of replacing the pads. It really has been driving me insane and everytime I brought the car in for service nothing was done. I brought my car in for its 35K service yesterday and again made my complaint. The service guy told me "he'd look into it" and I went on my way. I get a call a few hours later saying that Audi has recognized the problem and I will be getting brand new breaks that will not make the same horrific noise. So far so good. Crisp and 40F this morning with no squeal!!! Glad that Audi finally stepped up, just wish it had not taken so long.

are the brakes more responsive with the new pads? I get a bit of squealing but it's the responsiveness that sucks, especially at low speeds. I feel like I have to slam on the brakes to stop, I don't have different levels of braking.

Glad to hear your squeal is gone. I've only had very, very minor squealing at the beginning of a trip in the cold. It is annoying when it happens. Anyone know if the replacemet parts to fix the squealing are the default parts used for wearout replacements or only for 'complaints'? Unless my brake squealing suddenly gets horrific, I plan to just keep what I have until the pads are ready for normal replacement (and then think about pads with less dust).

Does this mean all B8 S4s are eligible for free brake replacements?

Not sure, but the service department did use the words "a known problem". One of my colleagues has a 2012 S4 and has had no problems with brake noise. My best guess is that they identifed the problem for MY2012 and are now applying that to the earlier cars. I would call your dealership and ask. Even if yours don't squeal, new free brakes from Audi are a pretty good deal

I've never had any issues with brake squeal and been through a cold spell where it got into teens. I do however have a terrible problem with brake dust. Will trade the squeal for the dust in a heart beat, obviously i don't want to have either.

Yes - there's a TSB out and if you bring it in, and you have bad squeal, they'll replace them. Mine have been replaced for over a month and work and sound great.

Same here. TSB 2027636/1 means new front brake pads and rotors......and no squeal.
