Default Clutch Pressure Plate Replacement

I have a 2010 Audi S4 in MINT condition. Always serviced by the retailer and rarely driven. It's got about 50K Miles on it. The car has been having issues starting and they said it's the Clutch Pressure Plate (i.e. a new clutch needed). The cost is $2,900. This seems odd to me. I had a 2001 Audi A4 that was manual and I drove it for 9 years and never needed to replace the clutch. Is this normal?

Unfortunately the clutch on this car can cause the car to be hard to start. You have to press the pedal down to the floor very hard. I replaced my clutch and it fixed the issue, as many others also with this same problem.
