I've read on this forum that many S4 owners experience a significantly improved exhaust note after the exhaust has been "broken in." Therefore this is likely what your hearing.

After the APR tune I can say my stock exhaust did get a bit louder...But PsY and NWS are right...nothing like the aftermarket exhaust and there is no better way to enjoy it than extended time in the upper RPM range!!

My stock exhaust has definitely improved @ 7500 miles. It's not up to aftermarket growl, but it's no longer as tame as it once was (I realize this is a completely subjective opinion). It also sounds better at the track, though

I'm so glad to hear the exhaust gets a little louder with age. I have 2500 miles so far and the exhaust is too quiet imo. Don't want a aftermarket exhaust sound but would like it a little louder. Stasis tune is coming for x-mas and I'm stoked to hear it makes a diff also. I have learned a lot from this forum!!!

Give it several more thousand miles and it will get better. Mine seemed to. Started it the other day while I was working in the garage and did a double take - almost didn't recognize it.

Louder at 2k miles, even more at 5k and now at 9200 miles, it seems to be noticeably louder than when it was new.

(Stasis ECU tune at 4.5k miles).

I've also noticed that the exhaust seems to have gotten a bit more assertive as the miles have piled up as well. I'm at 18K miles now, and the car sounds better than ever.
