Hey,
I am looking at a used 2010 tomorrow and I was wondering if I could tell by the VIN or a part number on the car if it indeed has the sport dif. I haven't driven a new S4 yet so I have nothing to compare to. I plan on doing some track days with it so sport diff is a must.
Anything else I should be looking for? Any known problems with 2010's?

problems: water pump, creaking clutch, vibration due to control arm. Search is your best friend.

the sport diff cars have a little drive select area on the center stack on the bottom left side.

also, there wont be an "S" mode on the transmission if you're looking at a dsg

It should say on the car description what equipment it has, including sport diff or anything else.

i bet the owner has the original window sticker----worth a shot to ask him/her...

Stick your head under the rear diff and look for the hydraulic actuator and 2 hydraulic hard lines that hang off the diff. The diff clearly looks different from every other rear diff you've ever seen.

The actuator is a cylindrical looking "tumor" on the diff and the hard lines are easy to see too.

Ya, I was in a 2011 S4 and saw no "S" on the trans console. I was wondering if they got rid of the sport mode. But I was told the car had a sport diff option. I assume the S mode in a sport diff model is engaged from the console, right?
