The plot thickens - B8 RS4 Avant Mule spotted

I think if Quattro GmbH continues to use that 4.2 V8, its cars will continue to fall below the competitive mark. This engine throws our platform too off balance, and doesn't produce enough (as in the RS5) to justify such a sacrifice. They would be better off "improving" the 3.0T with a variety of techniques and they could easily yield in the mid 400s for an RS series car. Pretty much every reviewer of the RS5 said they would pick an M3 over it (and the M3 costs 20-30K less). That's stupid on Quattro GmbH's part. Make a winner or make nothing IMO. This looks like another loser too. (not the Avant part, just the part bin reuse thing)
My first car was a 1968 Mustang, with the 302 V8 (the old 5.0L engine) and I love the rumble of a V8, don't get me wrong. It's perfection to my ear and likely always will be.
Now, that said, I am very anxious to hear what Audi is doing with the rumors around the 4.0 V8. I think this could be a superb engine depending on how they do it. I'm not sure if they are adjusting the bore or stroke on the 4.2, but I hope not. I hope and pray they are taking the 3.0 and adding 2 cylinders (basically), since we have 0.5L per cylinder displacement, making our engine a V8 would keep things light, give a known and proven good bore vs. stroke, balance out the engine more, and allow some incredible things.
The current rumors are that it will debut in the S7 and S8 - the S7 will be like our engine in the A6 and be a detuned version of the exact same engine, while the S8 will get the full tilt version, and be a twin turbo (whoo hoo, FI baby!) The S8 version will output 520HP, and the S7 will be a 394HP version,
Overall it's still just speculation, some sources say the 4.0 will be supercharged (which excites me even more, for why keep reading). This would give more instant torque for one, but mainly it would require a larger blower than we have on the S4 - which is something many S4 enthusiasts and tuners want for our car. If they went with the 1650R, which is not currently in production by Eaton, it would fit the duty the 4.0L would require, but be a boon to get that SC into production in order to allow APR a SC swap out

Dude, the RS5 will be here in August, where have you been? The TTRS is close behind it too.

Once I got into the S4, it was a completely different experience. The balance of the S4 was so much better than the S5 . The car had ample power and stability B8 platform. I was much more confident in the S4 setting into the turns and getting smooth rhythm around the track. I immediately regain my driving confidence and felt like this car is supremely capable on and off the track.
The TTS was also very stable, but lacking in power. I was much more willing to push the TTS and not worry about constantly spinning out or going off track like the S5

Again.. hoping Audi isn't gauging interest on pre-orders! They better bring that car over here! I'm just praying the RS4 happens as well.... and properly. (regardless of whether I buy one or not, it's good for Audi)

The RS5 would be out for me because I need a sedan. If I didn't need four doors, I would have bought an S5 already..
Doubtful I would buy an RS4 as well, since I can dump about $3k into my S4 and have a car with 400+ HP and probably do 90% of the things the RS4 will do.

My Audi dealership has a TTRS in the showroom; and you can spec them on the audi.de website - looks like it has 340HP. I'm assuming it's the same engine as in the RS3 since they have the same HP rating. Not sure I believe a 0-60 run of 3.6 seconds; that's R8 territory and I don't see Audi allowing that.
