Which tranny faster?

Not buying the car for straight line acceleration, however I am curious as to what others think is faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile, the s-tronic or standard 6-speed?

Most tests that I have seen with 0-60 and 1/4 times are 6-speeds and are in the 13.1-13.4 range.... There is a posted 13.0 with the s-tronic.... Not sure how the 6-spreed cars are being driven, IE how hard of a launch?

Thoughts?

The advantage of the 6MT is being able to launch. The stronic doesn't have launch control, so you can only floor it from idle. After the launch, my bet is the stronic will be quicker as it has faster shifts and (AFAIK) closer gear ratios.

That means from a hard launch, the 6MT is probably faster to 60. Quarter mile might be closer. From a roll, the stronic should be a bit faster.

Yeah kinda my thoughts also.... not sure anyone has launched their car hard(5-6KRPM slip) with a 6-speed.... I'm guessing the would result in a 4.5ish 0-60 and high 12 second 1/4 mile....

Not possible. Clutch in, throttle to the floor: max RPM = 3800. You can't get the engine above that when you are at a standstill with the clutch in. I just tried.

With a professional driver, the 6MT should be faster. The problem is that most people cann't shift a 6MT as fast as a Dual clutch trans shifts automatically. I drove an M3 with a DCT and the shifts were instantaneous. No way that anyone could manually shift a 6MT trans that fast.

Was wondering if Audi set some kind of limiter.... thanks for checking and letting me know..... 3800RPM is still pretty high and should lead to a nice launch.

Does anyone know what the s-tronic can be reved to while launching?

0 rpm. S Tronic does not have a launch control (yet)

do you have ESP turned off?

I'll bet the differences are so negligable that it's not even worth discussing. Remember, the 7-speed has one more shift down the 1/4 mile than the 6-speed.
