I was faced with same decision on my '14 S4. I went with the the Pilot Alpin 4. Have driven 3 winters and the performance has been excellent both in snowy conditions and the more frequent dry but cold weather.

We went with the XIce3 for our Q7 and also found them to work well. But for the S4, I think the PA4 is a better choice.

I am in upstate NY with conditions similar to yours.
