Preowned 2015 S4 or 2016 A6 Prestige
I have narrowed it down to these two models. Very similar price points. I am a 45 year old tech exec, live in a congested city with a 40 minute commute, no small kids.
I am concerned about the size of the back seat in the 4 for those rare times when I take 2 people, but is the A6 3.0 sporty enough to be fun still??
arrggghhh I don’t know!!! Help!

Awhile back you posted about buying an S6 vs A6. So I guess you've re-adjusted your wants.
I've driven both the B8 S4 and the C7 A6 quite a few times and they are both great cars. But to be blunt, if you actually want to drive people in the backseat, I'd pass on the S4.
Furthermore, the nice thing about the C7 A6 is that the 3.0T engine is the same one as found in the B8 S4, which is actually a supercharged motor, and can easily be tuned (i.e. APR, GIAC, etc...) to pump out north of 400 bhp. If you add a stiffer rear sway bar, you will not want for any kind of driving experience and you'll get the output of an S6...a wolf in sheep's clothing. The A6 is a step up from an interior luxury perspective as well, it's built to address a different clientele, just as the A8 is.

Ya, I am still a mess trying to decide on what to do. The S6 with the V8 just seems a bit overkill on City Commute. Regarding the engine being the same on the S4 vs S6 that was my thought. I am scheduling a test drive of the A6 Prestige, just to make sure. I drove an S4 on Sunday and it was definitely get up and haul *** in Dynamic mode.

Test drove a 2014 A6 prestige loaded with every possible option including the heads-up display. The A6 had plenty of power and was very comfortable. This one had really low miles but I passed due to 2 previous accidents.
The A6 prestige loaded was my first choice. Then I made the mistake of test driving a 2013 S4 6 speed with sport differential, B&O audio and carbon fiber interior trim. . I further compounded my mistake by posting the specifics of the S4 on this forum and asked for feedback. I have owned the S4 for 3 weeks and it's been a blast to drive.

My first S4 was the 2.7T back in 2000. Somehow my wife ended up with a 2002 A6 2.7T... The only reason I would ever choose to take her car over mine would be for the extra rear seat room. Sure the 6 is nicely appointed and great in terms of luxury but I love the performance and sportiness of the 4! I usually drive with my seat as far back as it'll go. I move it forward when I have had 3 adult passengers in my '00 and my '13 S4 and it was not uncomfortable.
The S4 is fast and fun and easier to put a smile on your face than the A6!

This comparison (S4 vs A6 or S6) is one that many folks go through. (I did...) The comments above are all accurate. DrGP provides his usual accurate summary/info. Here are my thoughts.
My S4 is now nearly 3 years old. I recall once when two above average size friends (6' guy nearly same gal.) rode in the back seat to dinner...maybe 30 minutes) It worked fine. I think this is the only time anyone rode back there. Remember it is a 4 door...not a coupe, so entry/egress are better. He kids me about wanting to buy the car when I am ready to sell.
When I see A6 on the road I think...nice family or 'executive' car for regular around town or Interstate journeys. (Not that there's anything WRONG with that ). If that is what you seek, maybe A6 size is right. I have little desire to even test drive one.
Every time I look at and drive the S4 it feels good. It is right sized for me/us. I still get a 'nice car' comment regularly. Get the sound system, rear end, color/trim/interior you like. I am happy with the 7 speed DCT. I have complained some about seating position and comfort...butt have adjusted some, and I am among the few who have complained
I am dreaming now of possible new purchase...considering S5 hatch and even toy with RS5 but would want a 4 dr hatch/Avant. So unless Audi breaks down and offers a performance A6/S6 sized Avant, which I might might consider (butt the $$$ would be nuts I think), I'm no longer likely to consider an A6 or S6 sedan...though both are nice cars of course.
