2018 S4 engine braking
#11
Thanks for all your insights, this all makes sense now, I will say that I am surprised that Audi would opt for fuel saving on an S4 instead of spirited drivability.
This is my 4th S4 and the first model that seems to have lost some of the what the S4 was noted for. In my humble opinion.

Guess my next question is ; are there any aftermarket tuning options available for the transmission? I am assuming that this is a software program that enables freewheeling during downshifts.

There are currently no flash tunes available for either the engine or the transmission. The only option on this platform right now are piggyback units that trick the boost/throttle position/etc sensors which will of course not change your transmission programming or behavior.

I was wondering too about the B9 S5. I was so used to downshifting in my previous car when coming to a stop. Guess I don't need to do that anymore unless I want that glorious downshift sound.

While there doesn't seem to be engine braking in D transmission mode (in an effort to maximize fuel economy, I presume), there certainly seems to be some pretty vigorous engine braking in S transmission mode.
