My wife has a touchscreen for android auto in her Ascent and I like it way more than fumbling with the MMI **** on my S4

Android Auto and CarPlay were designed for touchscreens and they can be pretty annoying to use with the dial. Whenever I use CarPlay, I find myself using far too much attention to figure out how to twist the dial and what to select to drill down into something that would have otherwise just required a touch. On the other hand, the regular MMI menus are designed to be quick to navigate with the wheel and I find it quite intuitive. I played with the touchscreen at the LA Auto Show last December and it seemed to work fine in the short time that I had to play with it, but I think I would prefer something that works well with both physical and touchscreen, like BMW and Mercedes.

looks so similar to a hyundai kona now. I love the mmi **** and controls, reaching your hand to the touchscreen and having to look away at times i hate. I got the touchscreen on my vw tiguan and hate that if i want to see something in settings, i have to wait for the car to to standing or to even pair bluetooth if a friend gets in. MMI control **** and the extra buttons and such made all this easy. Audi is going backwards i think.

Good luck keeping the piano black trim around the shifter looking new.

Hopefully, one can have something else in its place?

That seems unlikely because the piano black is replacing the matte plastic around the shifter, MMI ****, and cupholders, not the the carbon fiber or aluminum trim pieces. It's like Audi pored over the interior for months trying to determine how they could screw it up most with minimal investment, and then settled on removing the MMI ****, changing the nav screen to a touchscreen but leaving it in its current location, and adding piano black trim in the locations where it is most likely to get dirty and scratched.

The new A4 looks more like a smaller A6, especially the rear.

https://www.autoblog.com/2019/05/15/...#slide-7578632

Stuff I noticed right away:
  • New lights
  • New front bumper + grille
  • New doors: shoulder line now breaks, was previously entire length of car
  • New MMI GUI + controls; command wheel now gone and now looks to be a Q5-style trackpad (or is that now a cubby?)

Unfortunately, it appears to be a cubby:

One of the other things I noticed is it looks like Audi is moving towards subscription model for additional options..Im curious if they plan on charging extra for Android Auto / CarPlay like BMW

There are a few walkarounds on YouTube
