all most 1 year update
I bought my new Audi S4 in September of last year. I have a little over 17,000 miles on it so far. I replaced the stock Contis when they wore out around 11,000 miles with Michelin P4S which are a HUGE improvement for very little more in cost than the Contis. It is going in for new brake pads tomorrow. There have been ZERO issues with the car. I did the first oil change at 10,000, and the tech commented that the oil looked very clean. It has not burned any oil either.
I have one gripe; I hate Pre-Sense (please see my other post).
I would like to see the gas tank be a little bigger, but that is not a gripe, but more wishful thinking.
At some point in the future, I will probably do the suspension, and perhaps a mild tune, but I want to keep it looking like a sleeper.
Overall, I have been very happy with the car. I am very happy with the weight and balance. I think the transmission is perhaps the best auto-box I have ever had (granted my first slushbox happened in 2010), and the Sport Diff is awesome. I think the brakes are unreal for a 4 door daily driver.
Just a little background on previous cars to frame everything:
1990-1997 e30 M3 (love/hate: loved the car, hated the maintenance. App. 200k miles when sold)
1997-2001 e36 M3 (great car, trouble free)
2001-2003 B5 S4 (good car, but a little soft.)
2004-2008 e46 M3 (great engine, trouble free)
2008-present 911S (will never sell this one)
2010-2012 e60 535i (great car, trouble free, a little boring, but good for the kids)
2012-2013 Cayenne S (total lemon, in the shop for 9 of the 12 months I owned it)
2013-2017 f10 535ix (great car, trouble free, but VERY boring)
2017-present B9 S4
*my wife has also owned a TTq Roadster, a Q7 4.2V8 (wish she hadn't sold that one) and a Q7 3.0supercharged.

You must be hard on your brakes to need pads already at 17k miles! I'd like to know what you pay for that and which pads get replaced.
Pretty sure I have more than 50% life left on mine at 16K miles, and I'm notoriously hard on brake pads (with all my other cars).
If you HATE pre-sense, then shut it down in the MMI. Not my personal recommendation, but it can be done.
Jealous your engine burns no oil -- mine seems to consume about 1 quart every 10k. Which is TOTALLY acceptable, but forces me to keep an eye on it, and top off every so often
I really appreciate the handling and general comfort of the stock suspension, but if I did one mod - it'd be lowering springs. That'd make it look GOOOOOD.

Newport Beach Audi threw in an extended maintenance contract in addition to Audicare, so the pads, sensors and labor was covered (even though the dealer that bought Newport Beach Audi bitched and moaned extensively about it).
I am hard on brakes generally, but there was still usable depth in the pads even though the brake sensor was going off. The rear was more worn than the front. I went on getaudiparts.com to check retail prices on pads etc. out of curiosity. I think the prices are reasonable given the size of the brakes.
I have Presense turned off as much as I can in MMI. To fully trim it off, I would need to go into MMI every time I start the car. I just don’t like it.

Wow. You must drive a HARD bargain!
And yeah....wearing out the rear pads first -- that ain't Normal!
I'm not entirely certain, but you might check into one of the OBD Scanner threads to see if you can "hack" the ECU to shut down or modify PreSense in a meaningful way to suit your needs.
