does android or apple car play work through bluetooth or when you plug in the usb to the car? i thought it was via cable but then it said something about pairing via bluetooth.

The audio quality when streaming music via bluetooth isnt nearly as good as XM radio so i was trying to plug in to see if that would help.

Android Auto and CarPlay work via USB connection. When your mobile device is connected through Bluetooth it will use the MMI-native mobile functions.

For Carplay, the bluetooth connection will automatically disconnect when you plug the phone in and reconnect when you disconnect USB. The car won't let you have both active at the same time, but you don't need to do anything special.

CarPlay via bluetooth is only available on the next-generation MMI.....New A6/A7/A8/Q8 models currently.
