Default Audi S4/S5/SQ5 JB4 Information thread

We'll use this thread for Audi S4,S5, SQ5 JB4 BETA updates, map guides, firmware, and discussion!

Sales link: JB4 Performance Tuner for Audi S4/S5/SQ5 - BurgerTuning.com

Install Guide here: http://www.n54tech.com/flash_files/audi_s4_install.pdf

Optional map changing, datalogging and updates are done using the BMS data cable or JB4 Mobile REV3 bluetooth kit.

Map guide:

Map guide as of v4 firmware:

Map0: Stock tuning, disable JB4
Map1: 2psi peak over stock (default)
Map2: 3psi peak over stock
Map3: 4psi peak over stock
Map4: 6psi peak over stock, E85 mixture, race gas, or octane booster suggested
Map5: 6.5psi peak over stock, E85 mixture, race gas, or octane booster suggested
Map6: Custom tuning map, can be used as additive by setting RPM1500 less than 5psi, or absolute by setting it greater than 5psi.
Map7: Water/Meth (WMI) Progressive Mapping
Map8: Low Boost/VALET map. Runs 30% less boost than stock.

Firmware:

Firmware is the software for the JB4.

Firmware updates can be downloaded at this link in post 1: Firmware download link

FAQ:

What does the OBD cable do and is it needed:
The OBD cable is what feeds the JB4 with engine data for mapping purposes. . This CANbus connectivity which is the vehicle data network also allowes the JB4 to access and incorporate all engine data in it's tuning strategies, incorporate unique safety features such as keeping boost pressure low until oil and water is up to temperature to provide proper engine and turbo lubrication, and drop to a low boost map if the engine starts to over heat, run lean, excessively knock, or over boost. This creates a three dimensional tune where the JB4 does not need to start working based on boost pressure and rpm but also looks at pedal position creating a more refined power delivery. Using the gear reading we can recognize when the shift occurs lowering the boost add allowing for better post shift timing recovery.

Should I get the Data cable or Bluetooth connect kit?:
For logging and changing settings you have two options:
Data Cable: This supports MAC and Windows software that we have available for free.
JB4 Smart phone wireless kit: This supports IOS and Android with a app sold extra called JB4 Mobile. The app has all the features the laptop software has with the added benefit of 6 live gauges of engine parameters of your choice.

What does the fuel plug do:
The fuel plug increases the fuel rail pressure which in turn creates more fuel volume per injector cycle. Without this connection the JB4 relies more on the ECU for fuel compensation and with it attached the unmeasured boost is matched with rail pressure keeping the ECU adaption levels to a minimum. The connection is compulsory for ethanol mixes and on cars with standard fuel it is recommended to connect it as it does smoothen the power delivery to a extent.
The value that adjust the rail pressure is the Fuel open loop value. It is a global setting which is active in all maps. For now do not adjust it as its set optimum for the current maps.

How much ethanol can I run:
At this point after a year of ethanol use we recommend a maximum mix of E35.
Pump ethanol content varies by quite a extent and the mix does not need to be precise but normally not higher than this when assuming the E85 is actually 85% ethanol.

How long do our devices stay in BETA?
Typically we keep our products in BETA for a minimum of six months. During this time we asses the units in over 100 countries via our dealer network for compatibility of all supported variants. During this period we do data gathering and refine maps if needed. Hardware changes if needed during this period are done at our own expense so BETA units get upgraded at no cost.

Firmware versions and updates:
Over time we keep improving on the units adding more features so its well worth getting the data cable as a minimum to keep your unit up to date with new features and functionality.

We making good progress with our meth kits. Car is running well on 91 with the meth at +6psi levels.

In around two weeks we will have the solution available for the meth bung that is located pre throttle replacing the OEM piece.

Posted the new JB4 v4 firmware for S4/S5/ SQ5 Rs4/5 here https://www.n54tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49608[/URL] along with a revised map guide and notes. We've also added the new boost control module (BCM) to our website for those on good fuel who want to play around. It allows for direct waist gate control. On our stock car we have seen a advantage as well on the lower gears where boost build up is faster.
Took a test run on the new map5 today with the BCM enabled and was pleased with the results. 70f temps, 30% E85 over 91, all factory stock B9 S4.
In the JB4 log the new parameter you see there "WGDC" represents an offset to the turbocharger wastegate which allows the JB4 to directly manipulate boost targeting now for improved turbo response and higher boost targets, especially useful for those on high end fuel like E85 mixtures or race gas.
The new firmware also fixes the 233F fault that some users are getting in high boost maps when letting off.

To date we haven't had a stock turbo 3.0T on the dyno. Managed to play around with the A7 though which is rated at 340hp on 93aki/98ron fuel and saw 76hp in gains in map 4 with power peaking at 416hp with a decent hold. Seems we can get better timing doing something between map 3 and 4 in map 6 so going to play around a bit.
