Ibis white (black optics) S4 Avant
Hi AudiWorld,
I have been spending a lot of time recently reading all I could about the B9 S4 and I have recently received my S4 Avant (I'm in Australia where we are lucky enough to get the avant).
I am coming from a W204 C63 and I was looking for something a bit more comfortable and refined but with still a reasonable amount of performance. I think I pretty much found the perfect balance with the new S4.
The car I bought was dealer inventory so luckily did not have to endure the long wait. It had the items I considered important including technik pack, s performance pack and sport diff. Additionally the car was specced with panoramic sunroof, black ext package and magma red interior. I think the car it pretty loaded compared to the US spec cars.
I've attached a couple of pictures from delivery.
I haven't had much of a chance yet but I'm looking forward to driving it and working out how all the tech works!

Wow -- this is beautiful! More pictures, please.
I had a 2003 manual transmission 2.7T allroad with sport BPV's and sport anti-sway bars, RS6 (of the era) wheels, and a "trick" played on the computer to allow me to lower the suspension by just under an inch.
It was a custom order to replace a 2001 A6 4.2 (dynamic) -- and I deliberately ordered the car with all options, custom painted the fender flares. I knew it would almost certainly be my last manual transmission Audi.
I was right -- but, now, the DSG and 8-spd tip are so good, I'm good.
When I look at your waaay coool S4 avant, (in light of having driven the A4 allroad of late), I think "this [new S4 avant] is the one that got away." I put it that way because AoA must have done their Market homework and have determined that bringing another "station wagon" to the US would be to such a niche vehicle, the cost to bring it here would make even less sense than putting a stick shift in an RS7.
My wife's SQ5 (and her new one -- not here yet -- which was built on 5/13) is a great vehicle, and thankfully the US market will "tolerate" such a car (but I bet "just barely"); yet my "emotional marketer" says the S4 Avant "could be a contender."
I said, my "emotional marketer," which means, truth be told, the American market for such a vehicle is probably DOA. The latest A4 allroad is fantastic and "if" it could somehow have the S3's engine snuck into it, perhaps it too could enjoy even more market acceptance (and maybe somehow lose some of the stigma "station wagons" seem to have earned -- for god knows what reason.)
In any case, I am proud and pleased to be an American, but there are times -- like this -- when I wonder why (sometimes) it seems like we shove our heads up our noses.
Again, pictures -- inside and out.
And, congratulations -- your car is a work of art, if you asked me. As usual, no one asked me.

Thanks guys.
I think it odd that Audi can justify the cost of bringing a relatively small number of these wagons to Australia yet not to the US when, in terms of absolute numbers, the US market for these cars would likely be significantly larger. We are very lucky here as we still have access to a reasonable number of performance station wagons - Audi RS6, RS4, S4, and AMG C63 and 43, as well as our own home grown Commodore Sportswagon and related HSV Tourer. Hopefully we will still continue to have enough of a market to support these vehicles and not go completely the way of the SUV.
I am getting the window tint completed next week and will then try to find a nice spot to get some more pics.

Some interior shots I took this morning in this and the next post. The contrast stitching is very nice! As is the ambient lighting. If there are any other angles you would like please let me know.
