S4 Exhaust Valve Controller Package (Programmable)

Information:
With this exhaust valve control module you have the ability to better control your exhaust valves and program their behavior via a smartphone app. The controller allows you to program exactly how you would like the exhaust valves to behave in specific drive select modes. The exhaust valves will also automatically be set to the last drive select setting upon startup. The safety RPM for the valves opening can be set to the user specific setting. The factory control button that is double tapped to turn the module on and off completely can be programmed to be the ESP or Auto Start/Stop (if applicable). The full drive select system stays intact and functional, plus no added key fobs or controls are needed. Works with all models that have factory or aftermarket exhausts with valving that are utilizing the factory control systems.

There are drive select modes:

Dynamic
Auto
Comfort
Individual
(Your individual combination of modes)

The modes set up items in the car like the exhaust valve behavior, throttle behavior, suspension/diff (if applicable). When in each mode the exhaust valves do not behave in a simple manner, they open and close at sometimes what seems like random times and they can't revert to the same open or closed state on startup, etc.

That is where the exhaust valve controllers are useful. The programmable controller above allows you to set how the exhaust valves will behave in each drive select setting by RPM and/or speed, plus customize the functionality.

The standard module that is not programmable is also available and simply makes the valves work in a more intuitive and simpler way. That is available here:

The valves are open at all times when in Dynamic Sport mode though, correct?

This advertised exhaust controller you can program Dynamic to keep the valves open all the time. You can program each mode to how you want by rpm and/or speed.

The standard module comes setup with Dynamic open all the time, Auto standard behavior and Comfort closed all the time until 5000 rpm. The programmable controller is for someone looking to have flexability in how the valves behave beyond the standard and wants a few more features. I personally use the standard module in the S5 Sportback project car and love it, you can see it here:

If you have other questions do let me know.

Cheers,

Sorry, I mean while stock, if you are in dynamic sport, then the valves stay open at all times, correct? This unit basically gives you added controls should you want it to close at certain rpms and speeds.

No, without this or the standard controller the exhaust valves open and close in Dynamic mode. They do not stay open all the time and sometimes close at quite off times. It's very noticeable with aftermarket exhausts and somewhat annoying. These controllers correct that by keeping the valves open fully in Dynamic.

Cheers,

Cheers,
Alex, Is the CETE able to control the left and right valves independently? From what I can decipher from the following diagram is that the left valve is responsible for the helmholtz resonator side branch part of the exhaust. While the right valve appears to be responsible for the baffle/straight through flow of the muffler. Ideally I'd like to have the left valve closed for normal driving, reducing drone in comfort, which is what I'm assuming the product does in all valves closed mode. Individual mode mode be left valve closed, reduced drone and right valve open for loudish normal driving. Dynamic would be all valves open, my personal favourite but not so good for phone calls :-)

I know my wish list is massive but I have to ask...

From what I see both paths go through the Heimholtz center resonator, but one side could be more straight through than the other. On that page of the PDF I see it lists this the purposes is that 1, 2 or 3 exhaust outlets can be closed for acoustic purposes.

If you wanted one side to be controlled by the exhaust control module you can do that. Just plug in the harness on one side only and leave the other tied away letting the car control the other valve. CETE has said a customer or two have done this previously. You could try just the left valve and program the way you want leaving the right to the car, see how you like it. If it doesn't suit play with the programmable settings. If it really doesn't suit you try the right valve control only and do the same. CETE doesn't appear to have any plans to be adding left/right individual valve controls since it's would be a pretty rarely used option and would add some complexity.

Cheers,
