Default Oil Change Timing Question

For the B9, the oil change schedule starts at 10,000 miles or one year after being placed in service.

When does the one year clock start ticking:

a. When the car is built
b. When the car is delivered to the dealership
c. When I take delivery of it.

I would just change it at 5k miles. 10k miles seems a bit long to me for an initial oil change.

The answer is technically C -- but i'd go with miles on the clock more so than time elapsed.

You're splitting hairs on this level of OCI / OCD. But if it makes you FEEL better, you are more than safe by going with the date the car was PDi'd at the dealership, since that should be within a few weeks of the original Oil being put in the motor at the factory.

Not suggesting you do THIS, but I just changed the oil in one of my motorcycles, after 3 years, but only 1500 miles.
It's full synthetic, and it still looks clean as a whistle. it's not going to ferment in the oil tank to the point of causing any harm to the engine or internals.
My opinion.
Be guided accordingly to whatever makes you comfortable and fits your budget.

Changing oil more often is NEVER going to hurt anything but your wallet.

What GR said. With full synthetics it just doesn't matter as much as it used to. Funny enough I have the same story about my sportbike...it sat for almost a full year (in my heated garage granted) without being ridden but once last season, because I was so busy with my S4, but it fired right up a few days ago when I finally cleaned it for spring last week. Much more concerned about changing the gas than the oil in that puppy.

I wouldn't wait till 10K change. These B9's burn oil. I would change it around 5K to remove the metals from the break in period.
