Default Rear Cross Traffic Alert audible signal question

Hi. We recently bought a 2018 Monsoon grey CPO A4 QUATTRO with 3K miles, premium plus package with the SLINE trim.

My question is when does the Rear Cross Traffic Alert audible warning signal triggered?

Is it when it detects a car passing when backing up? or when the brakes are applied by the car?

I see the visual indicator such as the arrows when when it detects a car passing behind but no audible signal.

Thank you.

When you are in reverse, and the reverse camera is activated, if I car is coming by, it displays red arrows pointing towards the oncoming car. If you are moving backwards, it plays a long BEEEEEEEEEEEEP tone and if it thinks you are going to intersect, the car applies the brakes HARD. It's abrupt.

I cant emphasize enough how abrupt it is -- you'll think you ran over a kid on a bicycle. Enough to actually get out of the car to make sure you really didn't.

Is this supposed to sense, warn and apply the brakes for people or bicycles too (not just vehicles)?

Yes. Mine most commonly beeps in parking lots when I’m about to reverse out of a space and someone is walking near the back of the car.

And yeah - when it applies the brakes, it feels and sounds like you made an impact with something

There are multiple stages that I've seen and felt.

I pass by a school zone every morning and I can feel the brakes and brake pedal slightly grab when a pedestrian approaches a crosswalk in case they step out.

In the other instance, I backup onto my driveway and I have to hit the accelerator to get up the slight hill. My driveway is located around a curve, and this means Audi pre sense sometimes thinks that a car coming around the curve, albeit slowly, may be in a collision course with me. Red arrow alert and a slight beep.

Well, this one time I was backing up at 5 mph, and the car immediately came to a stop after a very loud thud with my foot still slightly on the accelerator pedal. It sounded absolutely horrible but I was stopped. I thought the car coming around the corner had hit me.

I found one flaw in the system that may not really be easy to resolve. When I'm parked downtown and backing our of angle parking onto the street, often times traffic won't stop just because you have your reverse lights on. You have to start inching out until you become an obstacle for people to stop. The rear cross traffic alert and braking says "no way no how!"

I've had the pre sense brake on me going at 60+ mph.... Coming to an intersection from a curve, no car in my lane, green light, but there was a car in the left turning lane, and the damn thing applied brake so hard that I thought I was flying out the windshield... but it was only for less than a second and then it released the brake. It scared the sh*t out of me...
