I've been noticing lately that when I engage the rear camera (reverse) the first few seconds of engagement in the MMI are rearlly grainy and also produces visible distorted lines in the picture.

Additionally, I've read complaints that the resolution of this camera is sub-standard compared with other cars of (eh-hem) lower value, and I have to agree after being in a few, and actually seeing the clarity and definition of those camera's.

This never really bothered me until I started getting the distortion from the camera, and then also noticed how grainy and unrefined the images are on the MMI.

Anybody else having issues with the rear camera?? This is on my list of things that will need to get fixed under warranty at my next 10k OCI visit to the dealer, unless necessity forces an earlier visit.

In the bigger picture, this is a minor complaint -- but in reality, I expect way more premium level components from a Premium-Priced performance sedan.

I had a similar problem that i ignored for quite a long time. I would get distortions, but it would go away after a few seconds. I thought nothing of it... It then got to the point where the camera would digitally move positions.. it was very odd, as if it had evolved into this whole new issue. I took it in, and the tech confirmed the camera was malfunctioning, it was replaced for free.

*Note that all digital... the camera's field of view is much larger than we see in our MMI... the camera at no point physically moved...

With the A4 at least the Prestige version comes with a better camera.

Is it really a better CAMERA, or is it just better software??

Good question, though I don't see any signs of processing going on. Both front and rear images are really very good and just appear instantly but maybe there's some cleanup involved.

I don't have the grainy/lines issue, but my camera still defaults to the graphic vs. camera overhead view several times a day. irritating.
