Default Replacing 2 vs 4 Tires - 10k Miles

Hey everyone,

I have a nail in my front left tire which cannot be repaired. As such, I need to replace the tire.

The car has the stock Conti Sport Contact 6 tires. Roughly 6-7 /32nds of tread left (car has 10.5k miles on it). I've also got the 19-inch wheels, with S Sport pack (upgraded diff) and dynamic steering.

Question for you all - since I am right on the 6-7 / 32nds barrier, do I need to replace all 4 tires, or just the 2 fronts? The tire shop "thinks" I can get away with just the two - but wasn't very confident in their answer. Obviously, I don't want to spend unnecessary $$, but I also don't want to do something silly just to save a few $$.

If I replace all 4, I will probably switch to the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires - I hear they wear much better.

Recommendations?

Trev

Trev, welcome to the forum! The spec says tires need to be within 4/32" (aka 1/8") of each other.

Timely!

Same event happened to me. Was going to look up info tonight, but you saved me the time. Appreciate the info, thanks.

My car came with crap alignment and it burned the first set of tires down to 2/32 by the 10K checkup.

Also, if you can wait a few days to replace, TireRack will shave it for you to what you specify if you just want to replace one.
