Rotor question
Hi everyone.. Had to do a really hard brake this morning from a decent rate of speed, felt a bit of fade when I did it and took a look at my rotors when I got in to work..It left a mark.. So my two fronts look like this.. I dont feel anything different when stopping now.. Is this likely permanent?
Thanks,
Rick

No.
If you don't feel any odd pulsation during normal braking, then those scuffs will wear away normally.
BTW, did you do a "bed in/bedding" when your S4 was new?
If not, you could try and do a bedding session to help clean up the rotors and pads.
However, after the first few hundred miles the bedding process has already occurred.
I mostly use the Brembo recommended procedure, but other manufacturers have their own method for bedding.
I've done a bedding for all of my cars since the 1990's.

Thanks. Familiar with bedding but I did not do it when I got the car. I have 6K miles on the car now, and this morning was the hardest I’ve ever pushed the brakes on the car.. It was one stop, I don’t make a habit of it. Thanks.

Most important thing is to try to not leave the brake pressed after a high speed stop, the brake pad can imprint on the hot rotor and induce vibration.
Roll slowly forward if there is space or put it in park/neutral and take your foot off the brake

Aware of that. It was a hard brake, not a stop.. Slowed down to about 20 mph from something much higher.
At any rate - the marks are starting to lighten.. And there hasn’t been any vibration or anything when stopping.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. On our cars both the pads and rotors wear, which is why it is usually a replacement of both pads and rotors when brakes are needed. On one of my rear rotors I developed a small gouge as if a rock was stuck between the pad and the rotor for a few miles, but after 1,000 miles or so that gouge went away and I never had any problems with it even when the gouge was there.
